After you successfully configured the scanner, you can verify the scanner setup by opening a text editor and scanning a barcode.


Movilitas Mobile enables the user to choose whether to use Camera or Scanner:

  • If the device is Honeywell or Casio, the application listens to the mechanical button press and processes the data when the scan is completed. 
  • If the device is Zebra user can activate Scanner either with button in Movilitas Mobile or with mechanical buttons as the application listens to that event also.

In both cases, the application listens to 'com.ionic.datawedge.ACTION' or 'device.scanner.EVENT'. When the action is completed, the application processes the data.


For Honeywell and Casio (as far as we know), it is not possible to activate scanner through the software, while a Zebra device offers the option with 'com.symbol.datawedge.api.ACTION_SOFTSCANTRIGGER' and we give the extra parameter 'com.symbol.datawedge.api.EXTRA_PARAMETER': 'TOGGLE_SCANNING' to enable the scanner.


If the device is not mentioned in the Online Help, then you don’t have the option to switch between Camera and Scanner, and you use the Camera for scanning, by default.


Before You Begin


Make sure that you have configured the scanner as described in the applicable connection guide.


Procedure


1. Open a text editor on your mobile device.

2. Scan a test barcode with the built-in scanner and verify that you can see the data in the text file.

After scanning the above barcode, you should see the following data in the text file:

If you cannot see the data, your scanner setup is not correct. Revisit the applicable connection guide and configure the scanner.
